Goats! Goats eat grass.

When I was in east Africa, goats were called “grass cutters”. Locals would buy goats, then rent their services to the diplomats (and others) to keep the (rare) manicured lawns looking decent.

At the end of the season, the locals had fattened grass cutters, that could deliver a healthy litter and eventually be butchered, the dips had nice lawns, and a little indirect foreign aid was spread.

No kidding, it was a goal for some to get in a position where the could afford livestock so they could get paid to graze it on someone else’s property. For many, that was a ticket out of poverty so deep, you can’t fathom it here.
