I lived in west Phoenix near Maryvale for a year once. A less than pristine part of town. Infact pretty bad. I took the trash out one night after a swing shift at about 1158 pm.
I forgot it was new-years eve. I tossed my trash in and turned to walk back like I was strolling thru a nice park with not a care in the world and all hell broke loose at the stroke of midnight. I couldn't get down fast enough. War zone in an active fire fight doesn't accurately describe the volume and intensity of fire that erupted all at once all around me. If I could have dug thru the frozen asphalt I would have. Don't know how I didn't biden myself and ruin a good pair of skivvies and uniform pants.
Then I erupted into laughter as I realised what was going on.
