100% true, but by answering the phone, it tells them someone will answer.
When that happens, the number gets called more frequently.

Of course, this is just my understanding.

I started answering to mess with them because I was getting 8 to 12 calls a day, every day and decided I'd had enough. Call volume hasn't really changed, so I dunno. And I seem to have managed to scare a couple of them, which is a nice bonus.

Phone rings, I quietly say "Hello?"

Background noise, Hindi accent..."Hello, sir, dis is Michael with (scam operation) and we-"

"Michael? Mikey? Mikey, is that you?"

"Yes sir, my name is Michael..."

"Mikey, can you come over? I need you...I've...I've fallen and...please come help, Mikey..."

"Sir, I cannot come over, I am calling because..."

"Why won't you help, Mikey? I've fallen and...I need your help, Mikey, I can't stop the bleeding..."

"Sir, I cannot come over, you need to call 911..."

"Mikey? Why won't you help? Your mother needs you too..."

Replies are mostly fluff, but a few with crap info. Seems to have stopped at 24, maybe noticed that we noticed.
