In the back yard watching the eclipse today
I had plenty of the glasses and they worked fine

But I tried my welding helmet just for the heck of it and couldn't get it to look as crisp as the glasses
My wife was watching me and she ask what was the matter
I told her and then started to take the helmet back to the shop

And she straight up looked at me and said

"You should try your sunglasses, they are polarized "

I checked it out with the auto darken helmet, set on 13, fuzzy, not clear. Checked it with the old fixed lens helmet, a 13 lens, crystal clear. Then switched back to approved glasses, just about the same as the old helmet

Well I guess we survived the eclipse
Back to our normal lives folks.
My neighborhood is nowhere near where an even partial eclipse could be seen. It was solidly overcast and nothing was visible in the sky.

Yet at ~1:30PM today, there were several clumps of dozens of people standing around outside, just looking up at the sky as things got a little darker, then got a little lighter.

    I don't get it.
