    Cooling fins are horizontal on Pans.
    You'll find a few vertical fins on
    Flatheads.
    Without looking it up the oldest Panhead I've seen was a 1948 and it was 61cid. and may have been a springer.

    Look close, you can see the fins on the flathead.
    Yeah, you're right 48 is the oldest, probably is flathead, bike style is about the same.
    BTW panhead was both 61 & 74ci.

    Thanks for the info.
    I left a pic of my '57 earlier.
    I swapped out my mousetrap for a hand shift. I liked the '56 emblem better.
