They're called Portaledges. Basically it's a large cot that's suspended instead of using legs on the ground. Put a tent-like tarp over it and voila! A tent for that four day push to the top.

In the old days (30+ years ago) they would just use any old hammock and a sleeping bag with no protection from the wind or rain.
