Anyone here ever kill a feral hog with a blackpowder rifle . I haven't even brought it up with the outfitter yet, and this is kinda just in the maybe/ planning stages. It's a 2 day 3 night hunt for $300 with a 2 hog limit. I have a .45 old fashioned Kentucky patched ball rifle.
Yeah, I know I'll be undergunned, but, you start getting a large caliber, saboted bullet, scoped rifle and I might as well use my 30.06.
It'll be up to the outfitter. I'm not interested in shooting a 350+ lb. hog, I want something @100 lbs. or so to eat. But,regardless , I have to clean my freezers out, I don't really have room for a package of pork chops ATM.
I've killed hogs up to an estimated 250# plus with my .50cal TC Hawken I built years ago. .490" patched round ball and 80gr. FF[Volume] American Pioneer Powder. Trust me, they drop just as quickly as being hit with an '06. Lots of people buy into the big jacketed sabot powder pellets inline scoped things, but a patched round ball out to about 125m is nothing to sneeze at.
I've killed 4 here at my place with a Colt 2nd model Dragoon with a full load and .454" round ball. They went down like being hit with a .357Mag. So yeah, BP guns are VERY lethal. Over the past 58 years I've taken elk, mule deer, whitetail, hog, coyote, and assorted other critters with BP weapons. They were top weapons of the day in the 1860's and handled the job quite well. Today is no different. Go get 'em!
