P220 Changing sights

I have an old school P220 (amongst others) with tge old style lollipop sights.

How hard is it to change the sights?
Let me rephrase that - how hard. is it to do accurately? Any advice? I know I can bang the old out and new in, but how do I assure they line up left/right?

Really want to put this in a carry rotation but the sights leave a lot to be desired.

It's pretty straightforward, just like any other dovetail sights on a pistol. They are not driven in with a hydraulic press at the factory like Kimbers are. It is an easy DIY with a small hammer and a punch.

The way I make sure they are centered is I mic from the edge of the new sight to the edge of the slide and make sure it is equal on both sides.

Just clamp it in a vise and pound it out. I don't use a brass or nylon punch. Just a steel punch with the tip taped up. Easy peasy.

I wonder if I took a mic to it... if the sights were different widths...

perhaps I can mark center with a pencil or something.

Or bring a vice/mallet/punch to the range.

What does it matter what size the new sights are? Once the new sights are on, just make sure the gap is equal on both sides.

haha reading fail. I thought you mic'd the distance from one edge of the old sight vs. distance of the new sight.
