Picked up a used police trade in M500 from crzy_one a couple of weeks ago and decided to try Aluma Hyde II. I wound up using a wire wheel on the grinding bench and cleaned it to the white. I then took a 4x8 ft sheet of insulation and made a makeshift oven. I was able to keep the parts between 185 and 230 switching between hi/low on the heater and cooked it for 3.5 hours. Let it set another 4 days for good measure and reassembled today.

Paint seems pretty durable and is supposed to stand up to gun cleaning solvents. We'll see.

That turned out real nice. It should hold up good since you’re giving it time to cure.

It will still look good once it’s “battle worn” a bit too.

    Thanks.

I didn't have any if the horror stories I read about clogging and such. Just cleaned the parts, heated them up, and sprayed. Was able to come back and do more with no clogging the tip. People were suggesting buying extra tips to swap between coats. Turned out to be not needed.

Very good idea to let it cure those extra 4 days. I've done a lot of DuraCoat and some Aluma Hyde finishing of plastic and metal, and have learned the hard way the folly of handling the finished work too soon. Well, I say I've learned....but I tend to get impatient and want to reassemble to "see how it looks"....it is very easy to gack a new finish.
Your Mossberg looks great - nice work!

Went and shot it today to see what pattern it throws. With some 8 pellet 00 it was 3 inches at 10ft, 6 inches at 15 ft and 10 inches at 25 ft.

Shot 5 slugs at 35 yards. First two low was where the dot fell installed. Shot 3 more after an elevation adj, and called it quits until I make it over to the 50/100 range.

I never felt the extended slide release while firing.

It's a shotgun doing shotgun things. Nothing to see here.

How is the paint holding up? My only experience with gun paint was with a Cannik I bought a couple of years ago that had just been painted and I found that they did not let it cure very much and the paint started coming off. (side note the person I sold it to bought it because it matched his car, so far that is the strangest reason I have gotten on a sale)
