Is FOX pepper spray still good stuff? Not sure what to get her for the car. She needs a good sized bottle to spray a perp. I'm trying to convince her of a police trade in 9mm to leave in the car but haven't gotten that job done yet.

I seem to remember a few years ago that there was a problem with a citizen that was doing something weird at early hours in the morning. The Rowlett PD took out after him, captured the guy, got him out of the car and shook him down. He had all kinds of stuff in his car and was towing a jet ski or something. Anyway it seemed strange to me but the PD were adamant on taking this guy apart. They found a tiny bottle of pepper spray on him and for some reason were able to put a FELONY on him for having it.

It took the guy somewhere around $7000 to get this mess undone after spending several nights in jail and many court dates and lawyer fees.

So what is the deal with pepper spray and local PD's in the Metroplex? Are they going to draw down on my little wife, strip her down and put a felony on her over a can of pepper spray? I am kidding of course but this dude went through some serious shit over a can of pepper spray and the police cited some verbiage in the law stating that it was illegal because of the way the law was written. This local PD read the law as being the size of the can he had fit into the law so he took the ride.

She has her CHL but I am not sure if that keeps her from getting beat up on a stop? Just need to make extra sure that she will be safe not only from bad guys attacking her but also a local PD wanting to put her in jail.

The chief McClean (with a blank name badge lol) explains that the arrest and felony charges are up to him because the law is so vague. It came down to the size of the canister.

Here's a Topix blog where the man explains the stop and all of his problems. Some people weigh in on him.

On a different note, remember the shelf life of p. spray (or anything pressurized) is not enhanced when left in a hot car in Texas. You'll need to follow directions & test spray occasionally

Yeah the more I have looked into this the more I am wanting her just to have another gun. With her training and certifications there's no reason to go the pepper spray route especially if the cops are putting felonies on people for them. I'll start looking for a police turn in or something nice and cheap. I like Glocks but 45's are hard to find turned in if at all.

FWIW the cop that busted the guy in Wylie over the pepper spray was busted for child porn and other charges so he's gone. He was a 13 year veteran with the dept but had be demoted at some point from SGT to officer so he was not a good guy.

Pepper spray is for times when deadly force is not justified. Don't let that case in Wylie spook you. I dug into that, and the dude brought it on himself.

Your wife carrying pepper spray will not be an issue.

Indeed. When walking the dogs I carry spray for four legged pests (my part Mountain Dog attracts pit bulls like flies to honey for some reason, to their dismay) and an M&P for two legged ones.
