Police shoot a thug described as a "Parent of x kids, etc"

Why is it every time a thug is shot, especially when they are attacking the police, the first thing the press mentions it that the thug was a parent? To quote Chris Rock "What do you want a cookie?" Mohammed, Kim Jung-Il, Mao Tse Tung, and Stalin, were all parents but committed or inspired horrific crimes. The BTK killer, Warren Jeffs, and El Chapo, are parent and criminals, so why does the press get hung up on criminals being parents?

When a person protects their family, especially with a firearm, the press talks about how bad the person is and them being a parent last. So are they trying equate thugs with kids to the us, the Trumps, and the Cleavers?
