Power company flipped the switch because they were sued for fires started by their equipment. Their equipment started the fire because legislation prevented them from being able to perform necessary maintenance to prevent the fires...

That is only part of the problem. The company spent so much on renewables, they did not have the funds to pay for maintaining and/or replacing extremely old equipment and transmission lines.
