I got pulled over in BFE Blanco county by DPS for going 80. The trooper was a guy I shot with on the shooting team. Small world. We spend a good 15 minutes on the side of the road getting caught up on everyone.

About a month after I got my CHL, I was pulled over with my family in the car. The first thing I did was to tell him I have a CHL, and that I had a weapon with me as I handed him my license and CHL. He asked where the weapon was (concealed on my hip), he said I needed to put a license plate on the front bumper and told us to have a good evening.

When I worked the streets, a CHL was essentially a "free warning" card. Might be a written warning to document my activity, but unless you were being a general ass, had done something incredibly stupid or didn't have insurance, you were on your way pretty quickly.

I wanted you to be in a frame of mind to stop and help me if I were wrestling with someone on the side of the road... not driving by thinking "eff that mother-effer, gets what he deserves!"
