You should of pawned it.
What could go wrong?
Craigslist is better.
Whatever it was, and who's ever it was, glad you turned it in. Why keep it? No sense being a tool just for the sake of being a tool. Karma, and all.
I also worked around calling any office number directly to help avoid somebody getting in trouble for losing it.
Stuff happens. No sense making it worse.
Now that was very nice of you. I would have returned it also. I know several of the local LE personally, so I would have checked with them first to see who lost it.

A Mountie might always get there man, but they sometimes lose their grenade launcher...
Maybe ya'll can help me out. As a child we all said "Finders Keepers Losers Weepers and possession is 9 tenths of the law." But where and when was Finders Keepers codified?
Technically the term is 9 "points" of the law.
Not sure how it would have worked if I had kept it and sold it or something. There was no official ownership label on it but enough info to figure it out.
It is a serialized item though.
My understanding is if you "find" something, but KNOW who it belonged to, then not valid.
Also, if you have a decent idea to who it belongs, yet make no effort to find out, then not valid.
