Just got my first over 65 exemption.

Valuation went up 25% from last year, but taxes still went down almost 9%.
Glad to see something finally got done with regard to the "taxation without representation" scam called Texas property tax.

Although it is too late for me, as we sold our dream home (a home I built, including 90% of the furniture in it) in West University last year.

The previous 14 years, with an over 65/DV exemption, still cost me a total $257,000+ in property tax to the Harris County crooks.

No way for a working man to retire, and make sure my family is taken care of, with those kind of taxes in old age.

What you get for having something nice ...
BTW: what's this concept of "ownership" we hold we supposedly hold dear!

I'm way over 65, have homestead also. Went to argue taxes, basically, tough luck. Gov will get what they want no matter. Board kinda chuckled when I stated Gov. doesn't listen to the public. School taxes are crazy high. And poor schools. They don't even attempt to pay off bonds, and it's mostly republican county.

My tax bill came today; the day before the vote. My bill went down 43%. The local ISD dropped their rates significantly and the added homestead and senior exemptions really paid off. Bill went from $3500 to $2000. First good news in the last 3 years of our decaying economy
