My local range allows rifle shooters at the 50 yard benches of which there are 6 for right handed shooters. I can under stand the range just wants to make money. My question is, other than quick sight in, why do people insist on shooting these high power rifles at such a short range? My theory is that they are such crap guns that is the limit of the accuracy.

As to the question, I don't know. Guess it depends on the individual and what their goals are. Maybe they are learning. Maybe there is more shade. Maybe just cause they feel like it.

Bore sighted and looking for a zero?
Other than that, I expect a centerfire rifle to be 100 yd or more.

However, I do enjoy offhand rifle at 50 or less yds.

Gonna be super serious for a minute. Fur realz.

Lots of new shooters these days who are out there trying to learn on their own.

Maybe strike up a conversation with them. See what the deal is, and maybe even get them shooting good enough that they have the confidence to move to the 100 yard range.

Better shooter and 50 yard lane is opened up.

Or maybe, the 100 yd is full. It happens.

I am thinking red dot/ no power scopes. ARs with them are very popular. Hard to see those tiny holes at 100 yards with bare eyes.

Also, my uncle's deer stands are all about 60 yards from the feeders. A 50 yard zero is better than 100 for that.

Who cares? If they like shooting at 50 yards - go for it. That's what I like to do with my AR with a red dot on it. If I put a scope on it, I'd be moving over to the 100+ yard side of the range.

I do all my shooting at 25 yards. But when I post the target pics I say it was 100.
