So went into a pawn shop for my lunch break and saw this Remington Rand 1911 sitting there that needed to be rescued. I know more about the US gov colts since I’m able to handle my father in laws for reference. This is the first time with a Remington Rand. Any help on with what I just got? Usually I make educated buys on guns I’m knowledgeable on, but for for $600 out the door I took a leap of faith cause the markings seemed to make sense from what I saw on a quick Google of the Remington Rand guns.

Remington rand made more WW2 1911A1s than anyone. Yours looks unmolested but to be sure detail stripping and photos of all markings of the barrel, top of frame. Both sides of frame, both sides of each grip panel details of trigger. Hammer, slidestop, main spring housing etc. It should have an acceptance mark above the mag release. FJA would be correct I think

    There are 3 variations, type 1, 2 and 3.

Looks to be legit from the pictures. Even just a box of 1911 parts is easily worth $600. If you are planning on shooting it, 230 gr. "Hardball" is it's preferred diet for ammo.

Good looking pistol and nice score. Enjoy it!

This one does indeed have the FJA stamp above the mag release. Yours looks like the 3rd variation with the smalller print on the slide (runs less than full length of slide stop lever Overall, for 600 you got a heck of a deal. Wanna make a quick $50?:frog:

Plan on keeping this one. My FIL had a US property Colt that’s all correct, so eventually will have 2

I've never seen a Remington Rand that cheap........

I think it has been refinished...whether arsenal or not I don't know...

There is an idiot scratch that gives me the impression it has been refinished......not a terrible thing....

Nice pistol and worthy of collection......well done Sir....

Good find. I agree with V-tach. It looks refinished to me. It has the Springfield Armory cartouche on the right side if the frame but it wasn't struck very well. Other marks look fainter than they should which indicates buffing and refinishing, but by who. It doesn't have an Armory rebuild stamp.

You did very well on that purchase. The CMP is selling pistols of that quality for $1050, and there's a waiting list. It's a historic piece, but it's also a very shootable pistol.
