Some sorry-ass person let a shopping cart go and it smashed in the side of my truck about 15 minutes ago. Called HEB - "sorry, no liability" - I get that. No surveillance camera footage without a police report. Call the police and it's "call your insurance company." I get that too. I'm very unhappy at this point. What piece of doo-doo (trying not to be too profane) doesn't even leave a note! People are irritating me.

I get to be the one to foot the bill on the deductible. Fktards!!! (yes, I'm still pissed) The po-po who showed up was a really nice young man though. We had a neighbor who was a policeman who got almost beaten to the inch of his life on the job. After that, they get nothing but my highest respect.

Long ago I learned to park at the farthest end of the parking lot. Its good exercise and no assholes dinging your car. Doesn't mean a random cart can't come out of nowhere but I feel you man. That "No liability" stuff is nuts, it's their property and their equipment. They could at least have looked at the footage privately and helped the police out. I guess being a a decent person running a business is hard to find these days.

Some SOB backed into my wife's car at a hospital parking lot.

The parking lot had video surveillance.

The security people looked at the video, and it had a ten-minute delay between cameras.

The damage was clearly seen on her car, but the offending driver or vehicle was no where to be found.

Insurance company listed the damages as "uninsured" driver.

Cost us $500.00 for the deductible.

Uninsured or "Hit and Run" ought to be a hanging offense.

    Be well.

When I would take the crew grocery shopping I would sit and wait until all the carts were put up. Leave your cart there? We will wait here forever then.

That sucks Robert. Probably the same kind of person that can't get up in time to be at work on time.

Sue them for the footage + court costs. Send their legal department a "Notice of Intent to Sue" with the ready-to-file suit and ask if they'd like one more chance to provide you the footage.

I'm not saying take them for money, just what they're making it cost you to get them to do the right thing.

Should be a pretty quick thing at the local JP court.

That's pretty shitty man. Sorry to hear.

Last year my wife's office was in the Omni building downtown. Someone in a vehicle they couldn't park took out both of her passenger-side doors when they parked. No note left. Even worse... $1,000 deductible and a Volvo made of Aluminum, so no local Mexican shop can fix it.

I buffed out what I could and did a little paint correction, so it's not immediately noticeable now, but the crease and small buckle still bother me. I just can't bring myself to spend $1,000 and up my insurance over something someone else caused.

ETA: I'd like to find the person and introduce them to bamboo shoots.

Nah - not worth the effort. Just sucks that people won't man up. Cheaters, Liars and Thieves should all have a Golden Bullet rattling around in their damn skull. OK - Still pissed.

Years ago my wife was backing out of a very odd shaped parking lot into a narrow alley. She barely grazed a car that was parked along side the "road". She called me to ask what to do since she couldn't find the owner and I told her to call the police.

Between the call and the police showing up the owner came out. He was livid and berated my wife (I was out of town, lucky for him).

When the cop showed up he berated the car owner. Apparently the owner was warned a few times about parking there just for that reason. The cop then asked my wife if she wanted to file a claim against the owner of the other car for damages. There wasn't any really and didn't want any further trouble so she dropped it.

The other owner was told to move his car immediately or he would be ticketed and would be ticketed anytime they saw his car parked there.
