Well, Rustler is plenty of fun. I figured out the 2S is a lot faster in the front yard. Open areas need 3S. Also pretty sure the local prairie dog population hates me. It was nice of them to build all those little jumps though.
Wheelie bar makes a big difference. Tires will start spinning if I stay on it but wheelies are much less likely to results in flips.
Probably order oversized Prolines for the slash eventually and put the 4 I have on the rear of the rustlers for better traction.
You definitely have to drive the Rustler more. Hammering the throttle all the time results on lots of straight line driving regardless of how you turn the wheel. Won't do donuts at full throttle either. Front lifts and it takes off.
Took the Rustler out and taped my phone on top with a GPS app running and a 2S battery.
Got 34.8mph over rough ground and gravel. I figure it would probably get another 5mph on something smooth, but what fun is that?
Maybe I'll get bored later this week and try on 3S, but dodging the prairie dog hills is tough as it is and I don't really want to smash my phone in a crash.
so you know how they say when you upgrade something, the next weakest link breaks?
I finally bulletproofed the ring & pinion on one of the ECXs... $40/diff on a $200 truck. ouch.
lost the rear wheels... spun one, other barely spun. Opened the diff and it was like trout bait... a ton of glitter.
Ordering up a GoolRC 4300kv (have one in the other truck) and going back to 2s.
Hopefully this will make the truck reliable again, and they'll start using them more.
Other ECX ran like a beast today
the damn Tacon is a rocket! I am seriously contemplating getting the truggy, but Mrs. rman isn't very happy lately with all the fishing shit and rc cars. We have 5 RC cars and probably 10 rods/reels. It's pretty bad.
Anyways, lost FWD on the Tacon, which happened when we first got it. Haven't torn into it yet but I probably lost the grub screw on the driveshaft.
Came home and showed miranda the Rustler I bought...for her of course.
We decided to play around in the yard and it was going well till I offered to drag race the 3S Slash against her 2S Rustler.
She was on the wheelie bar and keeping up after I got a slight lead off the line, the. She hit a rock or something and started tumbling.
Didn't make it through the first battery, lol
Putting RPM caster blocks in now. Probably should have started her on a NiMh or training mode.
I have some cheap Traxxas replacement front carriers and a couple sets of RPM rear carriers. Gonna order a set of RPM A-arms tonight for mirandas. She decided red would look good so we're swapping front and rear. She's considering stripping the chassis and dying it orange.
I've got her wanting to personalize it. That will go a long ways towards getting her hooked and opening up the budget...might order her a clear body for it. Then let her go with whatever design she wants.
if you can provide the vector files I can cut up vinyl for you
as far as alum... a couple weeks ago I spent 30 minutes messing with a shock, rebuilt it, and couldn't get the rear end to level out on one of the ECXs...
turns out the shock tower that got smashed (by a suburban) was still tweaked. I straightened it out fore/aft but didnt realize it got skewed vertically and laterally.
It's a discontinued part, going to see if HR makes one. I hate to be mismatched, so if not I'll have to spring for another ECX alum on ebay.
Looking for a good 3S to go in the Slash right now. Just trying to make sure I find one that fits without the aftermarket hold down bracket.
I've got a ton of LiPos, just none that really meet the Dems SA of RC cars. Only have 1 plane that pulls over 40amps and that gets 80mph or so on a 2200 45C without out heating up the pack. Cars have ridiculous amperage requirements.
