I built myself a M700 clone (long action) and everything is working fine except loading the magazine with more than 1 round is difficult to impossible. The spring does not want to compress.

When I compare the spring pressure to my other BA rifles, the spring pressure is insane.

Ideas for fixing it would be appreciated.

It didn't get removed from the follower then put on wrong? Is it seat properly in the follower?

Everything seems right, but the spring seems extremely strong. Even out of the rifle, it seems too strong.

I know it is a different rifle, but took out my Winchester Featherweight in 308and the spring was probably half as strong,

The rifle with the problem is a 270 with BLD bottom metal.

This is confusing. I had a 700BDL and the spring was a simple leaf spring. (See Part #33) The description of it being strong even out of the rifle makes no sense. Is this one of those detachable magazine conversions?
