RI sounds like many I know including me. Already cut what I could last year. Cannot ask for more money (raise) or I might lose the job I have. All I can do is cut what hurts the least.
If state governments buy things like the college I worked for as a student, there's immense potential to save money by skipping specialty government resellers and government sales divisions and buying direct from suppliers like any individual or corporation. Of course, there's no paperwork to ensure that the Rhodesian Albino Pygmy Shrew isn't harmed in the process nor to ensure that the company's subcontractors have all committed to diversity training for their mailroom robots, but it would save 30% plus on purchasing expenditures and the lack of paperwork might be a benefit too...
