When I was a kid down in Kingsville, my father had friends here in Houston that would come down to visit/hunt with us.
One man played the mandolin and banjo, the other played harmonica. It made for some awesome memories...
Was the memories before or after they went after the guys in canoes?

When I was a kid in Hondo, we had a church elder who did a fine job strumming along on a mandolin while his group played in church. He was never flashy. The church was a place for sending up prayers in song, not showing off how well you played. I just always assumed he was competent and nothing more.

Then one night I was in the church and he didn't know I was there. He was back in a classroom practising and I listened for a while from the hall. I would have sworn Bill Monroe was in there, except he was playing faster. My respect for that man, which was already very high, went even higher. He had the skills of a master but he felt no need to show off in church. Ya gotta respect that.

Dad played the guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and harmonica. He had a neck wire that he could play the harmonica and guitar or mandolin at the same time. I played the piano accordion, my brother the steel guitar, and sister the piano. Noisy around our house at times.
