Got this rifle from my grandpa before he passed away and would like some information on it. I've searched and keep coming up with info on the 340 only. According to my research the 340 and the 840 are the same but the one I have don't have the finger groves on each side of the mag. Any and all input will be appreciated [IMG]

The 840 is identical to the 340.
If I remember correctly the 340 is a Savage marked gun while the 840 is Stevens or Springfield marked.
Solid rifles. Many report excellent accuracy.

Years ago I had an 840 .222 and it shot M.O.A. All day long.
One bit of advice: DO NOT take the trigger mechanism apart. EVER. Please do not ask me how I know this.
I've got a couple of .222 mags. If interested PM me.

Very interested I've one got the one that came with gun and the spring is weak. Having trouble finding rings to put on a bigger scope I've been to every gun shop in my area(dfw) and all I get told is good luck.

I have a Savage 340 in 222. My Dad got it in 1953 for his birthday. He actually shot the barrel out. Many, many thousands of rounds. He had it rebarreled and I have it now after he passed. Prob the most accurate rifle I own. It hasn't seen factory ammo in 50 years at least. Wonderful rifle that has put many deer, hogs and varmints down. I wanted a larger objective scope mount, but could never find one. You may have to get something made. If you find something, let me know. Great rifle and enjoy.

Hi! A few years late, was wondering if you still have any 222 mags available for a Springfield 840.
    Best!
