School me on Jailbreaking an Iphone2g

Ok. I got an old 2g Iphone. But im happy with it and i didnt have to sign a contract to get it. Plus I got it cheap. Anywho. I cant send pics in texts anymore since I got this phone. The only way I read its possible is if you jailbreak it. So I found How To Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3 using Redsn0w for iPhone 2G/3G | The iPhone and iPad Blog by Simon which I think is pretty good. But IDK one from the next. What do you guys think? Is this process going to possibly brick my phone? Will ATT care if its jailbroken? Whats the legalities concerning this?
My iphone has version 3.1.3 (7E18)

And whats the difference between jailbreaking a phone and unlocking it?

Unlocking = making the phone able to be used on any compatible network (most new phones are locked to the network they're sold by)

Jailbreaking = making the phone able to use any software, not just the officially sanctioned software.

As long as your phone isn't causing network disturbances, AT&T could care less if it's jailbroken or not.

I knew what Unlocking was, but wasnt 100% sure of what jailbreaking was. Thanks guys. Ill prob try it later, I gotta be able to send pics in texts.

Jailbreak has to come first. Then unlock. Look at Planet-iPhones | Forums Down For Maintenance.

Pretty easy to do. just make sure you download the correct files. The 2G is kinda dinosaurish and if you download the wrong file(too new), it becomes a brick.

Unlocking has nothing to do with jailbreaking.

Once its bricked, can you fix it? Im getting confused on what I need, being its an old phone and the newer versions arent for it.

Ok. I think my dsl connection is as slow as dial up. After downloading several wrong things, I got the right one. Now that I got it jailbroken, it wasnt that hard. Now..what to do what to do. lol

Did your jailbreak load Cydia?

Yes. It loads slow, but ive read thats possibly credited to the phones processor.

It is. My 2G was very slow and it timed out often with Cydia. Try it over a wi-fi network instead of using the data connection.

Thanks for the tip. Im still trying to find something for the MMS. but its getting late. maybe i should stop while im ahead and pick up tomorrow. lol
