so, many years ago did some trading and guy included in the trade a 3x primary arms scope that has dovetail mounts on it.
what scope do you have on your AR?
thinking want a mount and something more like 3-9 or 4-12 as always had variable on my rifles except for the 22 and it had 4x.

    12x is a bunch for. 223/5.56.
Target acquisitioni can be frustrating at that power, if you're under any pressure/time constraints.
Just punching paper or hitting steel, 12x is a peach
If you're hunting or being hunted, 4 or 6 is a decent start.
well at 12 would be a lot further out if dialing it up that high, would have it down to 4 most times. the eyes are not getting any better as finally had to get glasses at 65 last year for all coverages. got by with just readers from dollar store for many years.

I run a nightforce NXS 2.5-10 on my SPR setup and am currently building an M4 Block II style rifle. Considering an Eotech with magnifier or acog. Very tough call. I think an LVPO is the way to go for most AR's but I just think it looks kinda weird with a fixed sight base.

Depending on range, barrel length and cartridge the answers are many! I have several AR's that reach subsonic just past 1k and some out to 2,300 yards so optic will be fitted to the task. Optics as low as 1-4 and high as 5-25
