    Does anyone know of a good source for scope anatomy, specifications etc I can look up and read about?
    Im trying to find something for a Savage 7mm Rem Mag rifle that I recently bought but havent fired yet..
    am not sure what I'll use it specifically for beyond coyotes and varmint stuff for the time being...
    but what Id like first it to become knowledgeable on what the terms are for the part of a scope, what the
    sizes (3-9x40 etc), adjustments and the like...

    Thanks y'all

    Sweet! Thanks guys...I'll be doing some reading later this evening for sure...

    Chunky Monkey, yeah thats what I hear...probably a lil overkill for sure....but for the rifle, bout 50 down the pipe, new case, un-used sling, 40 rounds of ammo and a cheapy scope for $380, I couldnt pass it up....:D

    Rob, here's several FAQ's we've written on optics:

    Probably one of the most overlooked things when it comes to optics are the bases and rings. People like to cheap out on those. By high quality and buy once. On most guns, I'd try to go with a steel base and steel rings from reputable manufacturers.

    Rob, once you get something figured out optic-wise, if you'd like we can hit up the range and I can give you pointers on how to zero your scope so that you'll know for the future.

    Travis,
    thanks for the additional info and the sighting offer...I'll definitely take you up on that soon.

    @flash.... thanks ;)

    No problem. Although it's not 100% necessary for most people's uses, I'd definitely recommend trying to get a scope with adjustable parallax. It allows you to adjust out any visual errors of the image/reticle/your eye not being on the same plane, which can eliminate a lot of errors and just make things easier. Modern optics. Use them to your advantage.

    Actually Im clueless as to this things capabilities but from all the responses I get, it's gonna do some damage to large, err, um, varmints
