Biggest staff churn in Congress.
That may be the case these days but interviews with former staff from decades ago were often a gut punch. Idealistic kids get out of college and want to make a difference in the world so they jump at a chance to be on staff for a congresscritter. Then they find out they work for a bitch who only uses them to fetch laundry and coffee and drive her around, getting yelled at in the most insulting way anytime she was in a bad mood. (That appears to be all the time.). Those idealistic kids get genuinely traumatized, something she does to staff over and over, year in and year out.
I won't argue with that. I've had only one boss like that. It didn't last long. I walked away after a few months. Life is too short to be treated like that. Maybe insecurity keeps people in these positions. I hope they find better jobs with people that value them.
When I was in t;he Army, we had, and they probably still have, a way to take care of people like that. We just did exactly what they told us to do and not a single other thing. Those with a Napoleon complex didn't last long.
Well, I'm pissed. When my sister passes on (which might be in 30 years so I might be getting worked up over nothing) I had planned to move to downtown Houston. I've lived in crime-infested places before and always seemed to be able to get along with the hookers and the homeless and the gangbangers. I can do it again. The symphony, theater, library, ballet, opera, and world-class medical care all being literally 10 minutes away would be very, very attractive to me once I'm alone in the world. And I could head out to Bayou Rifles Addicks range pretty much every week.
Theoretically, yes, but in practical terms there's no one to fire a sitting congresscritter except the voters and they only get one chance every few years. She can be just as evil as she wants and it won't materially impact her employment.
