I'm looking into getting a small pistol safe for the nightstand. What experiences/preferences do you guys have for the different kinds available? It's gotta keep kids out and let me in quickly if I need to.

The keyed safe (like I need another key to keep track of)
The electronic keypad version. What if the batteries are dead when you need into it fast?
The "finger tip scanning" version. I have read that these can be unreliable.

    Thoughts, suggestions, opinions? Thanks!

I believe the Gunvault weapon safes which are primarily opened with a series of button presses using your finger tips, also have a key which can be used to access the safe in the event the battery dies.

If you don't want to worry about a key or batteries you should check out vline safes. Amazon.com: V-Line Top Draw Security Case (Black): Sports & Outdoors You might be find a better price somewhere else on the net. That was just the first I found. I have a larger gun vault multi and I really like it. I have it connected to ac though and it is a tad big for the nightstand. I just keep my carry pistol out, but I don't have lil ones running around yet. When I do I'll get a vline. I have heard some excellent reviews of them!

Great info! Thanks all. For now, I've gotten the Stack-on keypad type. This should work until I can research something more permanent.
