I made a post in another thread that the M&P pistons were not reliable and I based that on some observations from shooting IDPA.

I went out and asked around and several of the guys shooting the M&Ps had good things to say about them and it caused me to take a 3nd look.

What I found was that the M&P has some unique features that warranted a 2nd look.

for the left handed shooter is is probably the best designed firearm on the market. The slide release is ambidextrous. The mag release is reversible and he grip inserts allow the grip to be configured for the individual shooters hand.

Trigger jobs appear to be available to lighten and tighten the fire control group.

The M&P can be had with a threaded barrel and a thumb safety.

Magazines can be had for around $25.00.

The only real negative hat I have heard is that some M&Ps had broken their barrels in a police deparment.

Like all new guns the M&P had some problems. S&W has worked quickly to address issues as they come up.

The darling of the perfect pistol crowd only has about 20 years worth of head start on the M&P and to this day still have issues come up. BTW, Perfection is about to release the 4th generation of thier pistols and are adopting the reversable mag release and changable back strap features.

M&P pistols are now much more sorted out than the first run guns and are well worth buying. I used to think the S&W Mod 39 was the best feeling gun ever made. S&W may have out done themselves with this one.

Granted there is no "PERFECT" answer for EVERYBODY, i do feel the the M&P is one of the most well thought out polymer pistols on the market. They did seem to get it right.

I love my M&P and won't be without thats for sure.

+1. I love my M&P45. I only experience hiccups with Winchester whitebox ammo in the form of light striker hits and believe its the ammo rather than the gun. I havent had the experience with other ammos but I have had the same issue with different pistols with the same ammo.

+1. My full-size 9mm M & P shoots easy, shoots everything, no issues whatsoever. My only dilemma is what to carry concealed when it is too big to take with. If they were to make a slim version M&P in a single-stack 9 or 380 with a safety, I would buy it immediately for CHL because the full-size and compact models are just so good.

I plan on borrowing one and shooting it.

I am a glock perfection guy and wouldn't trade my Glocks for any other make of pistol. I have been shooting glocks since 1993 when I bought my first G17.

However, for a left handed shooter, the M&P pistol seems to be the best bet.

Does anyone make a .22 upper for the M&P?

Not yet, that I know of, but they are only a few years old. Hopefully, someone will make one soon.

Yeah, those lovely Glocks aren't made for left handed people.

But, quite frankly, I'm right handed, and I prefer my weapons to NOT have ambidextrous safeties and slide locks. I guess that means I'm right hand biased.:gotme:

I'd certainly like to try out one of those M&P's at some point.

Ahh stink, it has got magazine safeties.

I would like to see a .22 upper and magazines for the M&P that works and works well.

Its a sign that people are taking the gun seriouly.

Maybe even a .22 version of the gun.

    i wonder if S&W islistening!
