    Hey All,

I'm looking for a source of lead in San Antonio. I'm not looking to be on the super cheap just want some lead and don;t want to pay for shipping.

Lead shot is probably ideal for my project but I'm open to other forms as well.

    Thanks

I've been collecting scrap wheel weight lead from my work. Just traded off everything I had but have some more I haven't processed yet. I get about 70% by volume of lead. The rest is zinc, steel, etc.

I just sorted through and have about 20+ pounds (sorted) that needs to be melted. I'm going to pickup another 20+ pounds (unsorted) tomorrow. I've been reading it at 1$/#

    Gunz are icky.
Try calling your local scrap yards. Sometimes they'll have lead.

Keep an eye on Craigslist and the local Bargain Shopper want ad paper.

    Ask at local shooting ranges.

If you've got any friends who are dentists who run their own practice, they will have buckets full of pure lead from the X ray things they put in your mouth.

Ashley Salvage on Roosevelt. 75 cents a pound and they have a skid with at least a ton on it, probably more. They also have over 1500 pounds of spent brass right next to it.

I've got lead scrap used in linear accelerator shielding. Depending on how much you need, I've got some you can just have. I usually sell 1000 lbs at a time to the scrap yard.

PM sent. I'm looking for a few pounds initially. I'm willing to pay a fair price...

You should ask him if it is pure lead or an alloy. An alloy is better for casting bullets as it fills out the mold better. If it's pure lead you'll need to add some tin to it. If you're going to get into casting you should take a look at http://castboolits.gunloads.com/ .

A copy of the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook would be very useful.

I'm not looking to cast bullets. I'm trying my hand at some leather work. Heavily weighted leather work ;)

Some bird shot might work well for that. Try and find someone that loads shot shells. That's what I put in the sandbag of my rifle rest.

Ultimately I plan to use bird shot but I'm working out weights and such at this point so about any lead will work.

I don't need a 25lb bag of lead hanging out in my shop just yet =)

Did you ever find your lead? I started thinking about this the other day. You could probably pickup a cheap box of shotgun shells for 5 bucks with 25 rounds, each with 1 1/8 lead shot in them.

Curious how it turned out for you
