I had a 45 Tactical when they first came out and hated it.

Fired a couple hundred rounds and didn't have any issues. My problem was the grip. I just couldn't get used to it.

If you like the grip then you should be good to go.

What is that all about? Are you that insecure about your plastic pistol that you need to slam on Glock’s in an XD thread?

So do you never want your Ford to become a Chevy? Let me put you mind at ease...inanimate objects don’t just convert themselves into other stuff on their own...

I had a 3.3 mod 2. I put a Powder River Precision trigger in it and it was a good shooter. Only had1 misfeed in a couple thousand rounds, and only with Underwood Ammo 255 grain hardcast. I just sold it to a friend looking for a compact 45 carry gun.

They are very good guns...I simply prefer another flavor plastic.

I think he was saying that the XD, despite being a polymer striker fired handgun is not a Glock (people have a tenancy to compare all polymer striker fired handguns to Glocks), and that is not necessarily a bad thing. The XD is a different beast, and might be a better fit for some people than a Glock would.

At least, that's how I read it.

Exactly how I read it as well. I was a huge fan of Glocks before I bought my first XD, and found I liked the Springfield much more. The 1911-like grip angle was the biggest selling point, otherwise the Croatians essentially replicated the popular Austrian pistol with some modifications. Springfield took the HS2000, expanded the line in terms of caliber, barrel lengths and finishes, turning it into the XD series.

The XD-45 won "Handgun of the Year" from both American Rifleman magazine and The Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence in 2006 (the year I bought mine) and the XD(M) repeated that award in 2009.

I do believe the XD is a progression of the Glock, which in my eye hasn't done much to update the pistol from its first generation released in 1982. A Glock 17 from that line doesn't look much different than Gen5 today, but many people find that to be preferable. Different strokes for different folks!

I mean SEMI wad cutters. There are very few wad cutters available for the .45 ACP. I have one mold that will drop a wad cutter though.

I have an XD45, you load up the mag with SWC loads and the first one works fine, then the slide drags the case head of the extracted brass across the case mouth of the round in the mag and folds the brass back.

My XD(M) 45 doesn't have that problem. They changed the slide geometry so it doesn't happen.

Quite the contrary. I love my Glocks and I love my XDs. With the grip angle and the grip safety, I don't consider them to be the same kind of pistol, though many do, and in which case they ascribe inferiority to the XDs. That's not something I agree with. Both are excellent, reliable pistols in my experience.

It is basically what the above two gents articulated far better than I could have.

    Different strokes indeed.

thanks for this post. I totally agree with you on the entire content.

sorry if I came across as a jerk. Just tired of all the Glock Haters who inject negative opinions in threads that have nothing to do with Glocks.

and FWIW, I too appreciate the XD platform. My daughter has an XDm 3.9 compact 9MM that’s been flawless.

Totally understand and sorry if my initial summation sounded a bit trollish, like a 9mm vs 45 ACP thread, it wasn't my intention.

Does your daughter carry the XDm 9? My XD9 subcompact is a bit too snappy for my wife. There's an XDE that she hasn't tried out yet in my safe. It's a bit snappy as well.

Right now im trying to get my hands on a Hellcat. Hubba hubba!

The one gripe I guess I have with my XD is the high bore axis. That is a gripe of many pistols but that is all I got right now. It makes the 9mm a tad snappy but my 45 is a softer push. I liked my buddies single stack 9mm. It is a great size for conceal carry.
