Thank you for this informative site. I have been around guns my whole adult life but never owned one and really don't know a lot about them other than the very VERY basics. My wife has recently recognized that we need to be "armed" to protect ourselves and our home. What are these controversial questions you speak of

I think he's wondering which is better, Glock or 1911.
But that doesn't seem that controversial to me.

There is no real controversy. 1911 is better than any of the second rate pistols.
Other than that, you need one for each different situation that fits you. And one for the wife for same. Other family members as well.
And there are a LOT of different situations so you will need multiple guns for each.
