Stihl FS 45 Trimmer: Repair or Replace

Bought this trimmer 6 years ago. It's been great, until Saturday when the head fell off. I took it apart and found a retaining clip had come off inside the shaft. After repairing, the unit ran fine for 30 mins, whereupon the head got so hot it literally melted away and flew off the unit. Maybe I didn't put it back together right, but it was pretty simple.

It's in the shop right now, awaiting an estimate. A new one is only $170, but I feel bad junking this one since the motor is perfect.

Thoughts?

I would repair it if it is cheaper. Stihl makes good products and are worth repairing if cost effective.

Why do you assume all repair shops would say this? Maybe you know something I do not.

Well considering that they prob charge <$60 an hr and a new one cost $170 you do the math.

I have a quote to replace the head for $60 currently, including parts and labor. We'll see how it goes.
