    I have spent all my life around military. WWii, Korean and Vietnam vets. My Pop did his tour in Vietnam and served 23 years. Retired 1sgt.
    He once told me this;
    No sane professional soldier wants war. It is ugly, vicious, nasty and things are done and seen that nobody should have to do or see. There is nothing noble about it. Regardless of the reason for it.
    The hardest part about it for most is a double edged sword;
    Knowing you survived when others didn't that might be more deserving or not.
    And reconciling in your head that you have, or have taken part in, the taking of other's lives.
    The longer you live with that, the harder it gets to live with.
    And some can't.
    I have known or known of many vets that could not. I was one of the lucky ones. My Pop could. And went on to try to help as many others as he could both in the service and after He retired.
    For some, it is the perfect life.
    Others, should be nowhere near the military let alone in it.
    For older vets, and on a different scale younger vets, I can muster some degree of sympathy for the choice to not live with that life anymore.
    Much more than someone that has not lived that life.

    Maybe the guy did not own a gun so went to the range and rented one?

    Not usually. Just gives people a chance to vent.
    Or say stupid stuff.
    Me included.

    I guess if the guy is going to do it, then its a show of kindness to not do it in his home if he has family. I've known folks who could not live in the same house someone died in.

    I’ve had 5 suicides by friends. 2 were major FUs, 1 was severe depression and 2 were health and pain related due to a terminal illness.
