It looks like October 1st was a the date where many, most or possibly all online vendors have began to collect TX sales tax. As I had posted elsewhere, Target Sports had mentioned that they would start on the 1st, but apparently they were not the only one. Looks like Sportsman's Guide, PSA and even SGAmmo are all now charging it.

Kind of wished I had looked into it further and placed an order or two.

ETA-- Brownells & Bud's seems not to be collecting at this time, so apparently not all just yet.

I found a workaround for SGammo.

It looks like Sam went and set up a new company that deals in bulk purchases only. It's free shipping but the shipped price is basically the same as the shipped price over at SGammo and minus the tax. I'm thinking their sales probably aren't large enough to trigger the sales tax threshold, at least for now.

Not a huge deal, as the online prices—including shipping—are still often considerably less than local prices. Especially considering convenience (gas and time spent).

I got in under the tax wire with SG Ammo & saved nearly $12. YESSS!

ETA; If Ammo Empire does not add Tx tax & freight is included in the posted price, my case of American Eagle 9mm would be $2.60 less than pre-tax SG Ammo. DANG it!!

Been sending our sales tax/use certificate to all vendors where I have been buying retail.........some of them actually requested it if we had one starting back in July.....expect all online vendors to start charging sales tax if your State has one......

Should have invested in the software companies that are providing the software to keep up with all the tax rates from the different States....

No shit... I didn't know this was coming. Just renewed the stupid Sportsman's Guide membership, too.

Thanks, I hadn't thought about that. I just looked, mine ends next month.

One thing about SPG though is that they are now offering free shipping to members on any order $49 or more without any code needed, so the hit might not be as bad as say for an order from SGAmmo who most likely cannot afford to offer free shipping at the same prices they are offering items at today.

True, But when comparing online to online vendors, it will certainly hurt some more then others. I don't buy bulk ammo locally, so for companies who can't afford to offer free shipping somehow, an additional $15+ on top of $15 to $20 to ship is going to kill any deal for me personally.

Also, I will add that I have found the cash back/rebate sites good for making a good deal better, but now they may be just the ticket to lessen the sales tax burden on orders for those vendors who participate in them. I've been using Active Junky only because I don't have a PP account tied to a bank account and I like getting a check better, but there are other sites that offer a better % back if you use your PP account to receive the funds.

I think it might be better to NOT say who isn't charging the tax since some people seem intent on forcing compliance.

The vendor probably does not meet the requirements to collect Texas sales tax.

The Comptroller will not require remote sellers with total Texas revenue of less than $500,000, in the preceding twelve calendar months, to obtain a permit or collect and remit sales and use tax.

Of course. You’re still expected to do your homework. But that’s not an indictment of online bulk buying.
