I got to switch to some Elvis now! Yes, I am unashamedly a huge Elvis fan, going back decades now. IMO, one of the best performers ever in the 20th century.
One of his greatest songs ever. One that is so closely associated with his concerts from the 1970's.
This Elvis song was one that the writer didn't think it would fit his style of singing and didn't recommend he do the song. Paul Anka essentially rewrote a French song with English lyrics for Frank Sinatra, who had a big hit with the song. And I like the Sinatra version, I am biased as Elvis does the same song, but it's distinctly different than Sinatra's version.
Another song that his own manager said wasn't suited for him, was one of his greatest songs ever IMO. The song was specifically written for Elvis, not long after the assassination of Martin Luther King, for whom Elvis had a deep respect and fondness for. An extremely emotional performance.
