The best method of self defense in NYC is to leave NY.
Citiots are the same everywhere. In the last 5 years I have fielded more comments than ever along the lines of getting a gun for defense of one's domicile, in response to rising violent crime rates.
My response is firstly, the government doesn't want you to defend yourself, so it's not a valid reason to acquire a gun (this is Canuckistan I'm referring to) so educate yourself on the laws; Secondly, you voted for these aholes and their revolving door policies so deal with it; Thirdly, in stressful situations I will care for my loved ones first and foremost, so uninvited guests may not be welcomed.
I used to live next door to an immigrant family from South Siberia, who came over in the wake of the USSR's collapse. They now know the quality of life in a relatively prosperous western democracy. Seeing as how the Soviets already provided the man of the house with their compulsory training, I wouldn't hesitate to equip him in a case of 'neighbourhood watch'. Spoiled liberals who want the world handed to them, not a chance.
