My grandfather didnt die in Korea, but the agent orange took his life years later when I was in 3rd grade. My other grandfather whom I never met died from kidney issues caused by radiation. He was stationed in NM where they were testing nuclear weapons. I also just lost my uncle 2 weeks ago. He was an army colonel in the special forces. He's the one that got me into guns.
The nine on the left were crew. Buddies, a former boss and one of my former students.
SSgt Snowden’s funeral started in Dallas and we drove about 45 minutes to a military cemetery. On a Friday afternoon about 3pm they shut down parts of I20 so we in the procession could all travel together. To see three lanes stopped so we could enter the Interstate was pretty amazing. All on ramps were blocked for us, we were just over two miles in length.
From my uncle's memoirs. Southern France, early 1943. We was going up the road to Valexie - I believe was the name of the town. That’s where they had set up a holding force, the Germans, to keep us from advancing; the main force of Germans had withdrawn at that time. Sergeant Jones always had a radio. He threw his antenna up over a high line pole. There wasn’t supposed to be any electricity in the wires. He said, “I can get Paris on the radio.” He throwed that antenna over the wire and I tell you it killed him instantly. Old #### Jones. There was nothin’ you could do. Not all ours died a glorious death.
Left was in Marseille, he claimed they were selling contraband. He also claimed he was wearing his 1911. He is in the middle both pictures
My dad in Paris. I think France gave him a great hatred of wine.
