This is a gun I've been wanting to get but I'm wondering why it's almost twice as much as the long version? Are there any good alternatives to a gun like this?

You could buy the longer version and form 1 it.

They have already done the paperwork and you're paying for it. Do it yourself is right.

Twice as much. Plus a $200 stamp.
With the longer one you need to have the receiver engraved, then the barrel removed, cut, recrowned, turnedand and the front sight reinstalled. Then the barrel reinstalled and headspaced. It's quite a bit of work and no warrantee. With this gun it's all done for you and they will fix it if it won't run.
