Howdy,
My Dad had two identical sharps rifles, with consecutive serial numbers, made. It took several years for them to come in, and he is curious about what these would be worth unfired. Do y’all have an idea?
Thank you much for any input!
These rifles are CUSTOM ORDERED Shipping charges will be determined when the rifle is finished Charges depend on the final weight of the boxed rifle insurance based on the rifle total and current rates at the time of shipment
Way back in the early 1980s, when they first started making Sharp's, Shiloh was located on Long Island, N.Y.
At the time I was working in farmingdale, about a mile from the facility, so one day after work, I found the place (No GPS back then!) and asked about the rifles.
I was surprised that it was a rather ordinary small metal working shop that seemed to specialize in iron railings (the kind to see on concrete steps of people's houses) and fences. There was no signage for gunmaking. It was in a small industrial park.
However after an initial introduction and telling them that I was a civil war reenactor, they warmed up considerably. They brought out this older gentleman who had a German accent.
He was very proud to show me an original receiver and his new-made copy. I was impressed! they were not set up to receive visitors, and he had no complete guns on hand, so I didn't stay long. Even back then, the cost of a Shiloh Sharps was way out of my budget.
15 years later, I bought a cheap Italian made model 1863 Sharps Carbine. The hammer does not touch the cone, so I had to shim it. Misfires are common.you get what you pay for.
The Shiloh Sharps sure are nice!
One year during the family summer vacation, we stopped in their shop in Montana. I was probably 12-13 at the time. I remember some guy, I have no idea who he was, taking us in the back and showing us several rows of rifles. He was picking them up and handing them to my Dad one after the other. I don’t remember what they cost back then, but I remember it was way more than we could ever afford. I don’t think my dad was to keen on me handling them!
