I have never lived in Victoria, but have lived all around the area, and have long-term friends there.

Victoria is an oilfield service city, with ranching, farming, transportation and some light manufacturing activity.

The City "lives and dies" with oil industry cycles.

Quiet, low cost of living, great hunting, easy Gulf access with fishing. Relatively low crime, low housing costs, plenty available labor & water. Good place to raise a family.

I had a co-worker once that drove a blurple v6 mustang with ghost flames, a steeda wing, and an open exhaust after the cats. I asked him why and he just shrugged and said, "I'm from Victoria."

At one time back in the 80's, it was billed as having the most millionaires per-capita in Texas. I am sure it was oil-related. Anyway, I go through there occasionally and find Victoria to be a nice, clean town.

Aren't you thinking of Midland, with the most millionaires and billionaires in Texas?
