I've been wanting to get a more appropriate piece of glass for the rifle pictured. Use case is mostly bench shooting, however I don't really have access to super long shots. My local range only goes up to 100 yards, and it must be frangible ammo. I've taken this rifle hog hunting once, and it did fine, but it was a little heavy (vs. a simple bolt action). It is a .308 with an 18 inch barrel.

Cabellas has what seems to be a REALLY good price on this one. Description says it is first focal plane. Any thoughts from the peanut gallery?

    Ffp is the only way

    Mil works with yds too

    At 1000y 1milrad = 1yd
    At 1000 ft 1milrad = 1 ft
    At 100yd 1milrad = .1yd (3.6inch)

So if you know MOA its not hard to switch over and and use mil.

Get a mil/mil FFP scope and you will not regret it if you get more serious

I have one. It’s probably worth that price.

Just know that it is going to make that heavy rifle heavier.

Strike Eagle on it now comes in at 23.9 ounces while the Viper is 32.2 ounces. Maybe I’ll consider changing out the stock to shed some weight.

I'd pass on any Vortex scope that wasn't a Razor series. Vortex has a great warranty, question is, just how many times are you going to need to use it?
Their track record on their cheaper scope's isn't that great.

Hard to suggest anything without knowing what your budget is.

My budget isn’t Razor - not because I don’t have the money, but because I don’t think I’d use it enough (and be proficient enough) to justify the cost. I’m not a super serious shooter.

Yes, I’m aware there is glass out there beyond Vortex that is stupid expensive

I have a strike eagle 4x24(?) on my Henry 308W, decent, so far so good. It is kinda heavy but most shooting is at 100yd range. I don't have to walk down there so see the holes.

The top is my 22" with a gen 1 pst. If I remember it's 6-24x50 ffp. It's held up pretty well so far. I would reach out to 1000 yard in a range at 4500' up in the Angeles forest. In spite of my skills being lacking. The bottom is my 16" with a gen 2 pst 1-6x24 hog hunter...

I’ve been buying Swampfox optics for the last several years and I’ve been very impressed with them. Great sale going on. Lots of options.
