Thanks for the suggestions y'all. Been looking into some of your suggestions.

The "Gucci Glocks" isn't quite what I'm wanting. CZ seems to make a lot of sense, but I can't say I know too much about their products. I know they purchased Colt a short while ago (I am a big Colt fanboy - for better or worse), so maybe there is some inherited loyalty there. CZ seems a bit unique in the market, but perhaps that what I'm wanting.

Springfield Prodigy can be a real good choice as well. I owned a cheap XD many years ago, but got rid of it after not too long. I recall Springfield caught some crap a few years ago. If I recall, they were backing some anti 2A legislation, but I don't recall exactly.

Bul Armory seems kinda neat. Volquartsen looks pretty weird.

CZ shadows are really sweet. Not sure if they have a optical mount but I bet someone could mill it. They are NICE guns. Ive fired a few of them.

The HK VP9 is boring. I have one. Decent gun, good optic mounting system, and the best mags in the entire industry but, honestly, it's just a boring gun. A VP9L with something like an SRO or the new 507 Comp might be cool though. A company now even makes brass VP9 backstraps if you want more heft.

PSA has a sale for Labor Day right now on the Century AP5-M. You can get a legit MP5K clone for $899. Technically that's a steel frame and meets at least some of your specs. Live out your Die Hard fantasy, you know you want to! ;)

    A few others:

    SIG
Also, SIG P229 or P226 Legion. New SIGs are hit or miss, lots of QC issues, and it's been that way for a good ~15yrs.

If it was me, I'd buy an older P229 or P226 since you can usually find LE trades for cheap. Ideally, early 2000's production short extractor slide with a forged extractor, before QC really went bad. Beware, they made MIM'd short extractors later, which created significant problems, before redesigning and switching to a MIM'd long extractor.

Then throw one of the P229 or P226 Legion slides on and call it good for probably just under ~$1k. If you still want to burn all the money, maybe also add some GGI parts (P229, P226) like the ELS trigger system, strut system, and Armory Craft hammer. That would make for an extremely nice shooter!

I'm reading/hearing that Prodigy has had some issues already.....

Edit - Apparently the 1st batch had some issues, and they were addressed.

Maybe I should have put this post in the Revolver section. Perhaps then I would have gotten actual semi auto recommendations from half you degens.

I've been wanting one of those just because they're weird and rare.
