I'm about to machine a barrel cone for my 1911, and wondering what clearance to run on it.
Anyone here ever fitted a bull barrel to a slide before?

Never done that. I’m trying to think of other machinist or former machinist on here…maybe @Shady

    Maybe @zackmars knows someone.

Don’t be afraid to call a manufacturer. You would be surprised how many would tell you.

No idea unfortunately. Barring any other posters, i second asking a MFG. May have better luck with smaller places like cabot, guncrafter, etc

    Will give it a try.
Shit, just getting some of them to answer me on what size their bull barrels are was like pulling teeth, and diameters ranged from .695" to .710", and they all claim 'drop-in'.

I am going to guess you will not get an answer from the manufacturer for liability reasons. Sue happy people have really messed up getting technical info out of places.

I will be honest and say I have no clue what your trying to make lol.

For most things we want to fit together and never take apart cut the inner and outer items a few .001"s difference. Heat the larger size item freeze the smaller size item slide them together and when they cool you will not be able to take them apart. I would try a couple of samples of the material you are using to get the gap correct.

Thanks oldag, yeah I finally just woke up,about an hour ago, and searched Google, and found them, and 1911Forum.
    Been reading through both.
A lot of nothing on 1911Forum so far, but more meat on 1911addicts.
    Getting closer.
Finding out how phrucked this AMT is, with the slide bore being way over norm (std. slide bore being right around .700)
and the Hardballer being .715" to .718" (yes, oblong).
I can set the slide up to make it a round like it should be, and stay under .725".
If my bag of all the original parts didn't run away and hide, I'd be tempted to put it back to original, and send it down the river at the next show, but I think one of my cats may have liberated it.

Always had a soft spot for the AMT Hardballer.

Well, all the forums I looked at were the same old s#it,
    "Buy part, put part in."
    So, doing it my way...
In my thread in the Gunsmithing section, on page two:
    Making my own parts
The start will be posted before 2024.
Not finished yet, but getting closer.
Hopefully be finished by next weekend.

    So, right around .006" clearance.
Seen some posts on other forums about going to .008", but that seemed excessive.
    I went to .003".
This was based on the temp I seen while hogging out the pilot hole on the barrel cone.
Temp was up around 180°f, and the barrel only grew .001".
I can always loosen it up if I need too.
First ops on this are now up in Gunsmithing.
