Be careful with items purchased from Amazon. Some manufacturers will not honor the warranty with purchases on Amazon. Vortex will. I think Nikon and Leupold do.
I don't think I've seen Amazon deal directly with the manufacturers.

Amazon is an authorized seller of some things.

For the things they aren't authorized sellers for, they're typically a step-above other gray-market sellers, in that they will match the MFR's warranty.

If you aren't buying from an authorized seller (and often times, even if you are), abide by the old adage "buy the seller". Deal with people who are known, who have a good reputation, who have a track record.

This holds true for Amazon, eBay sellers, even guys on an Internet forum.

I've bought guns sight-unseen from good sellers. Expensive watches from people in other countries. And a new, gray-market watch from Amazon...all with confidence.

And if you pay with PayPal, and pay the 3%, you've got a buyer's guarantee...many sellers don't like PayPal because they can side with unscrupulous buyers who make ridiculous claims, but that's a topic for another thread...

I'm not sure about Nikon but Leupold don't care where you bought it or even if you are the original owner. They warranty it to the 40th owner just like the original purchaser. One reason I try to buy Leupold, even used.
