In the Texas LTC Class there are four subjects that are MANDATORY. The class has to be a minimum of four hours long or a maximum of 6 hours in length. Classroom breaks, test taking time, and range time aren't included in class room hours.
The four subjects that must be covered are also called "the four food groups".
1. Laws that relate to Weapons and Deadly Force
2. Handgun Use and Safety, including the use of restraint holsters and methods to ensure the secure carrying of openly carried handguns
3. Non‐Violent Dispute Resolution
4. Proper Storage Practices for Handguns with an Emphasis on Storage Practices That Eliminate the Possibility of Accidental Injury to a Child
I teach the material in this exact order. If your class was entertaining and you had a good time, but this material wasn't' covered; you did not attend a "good class". When I hear of folks who have recently taken the Texas LTC class, but have questions on the most basic of information that should've been thoroughly covered in class, it leads to me wonder about the quality of the instructor and or the maturity of the student.
Call me an ass, but if you're not responsible enough to pay attention during a four hour class how can you be responsible enough to carry a handgun in public? I'm not asking you to take a LTC class from me. Hell, I'm done with scheduled LTC classes until January. What I am asking you to do is take a LTC class from an instructor who covers the required material. Do your homework. No one but you is responsible for you.
