What type of shells does everyone use for home defense?

right now any 2 3/4" 12 gauge 00 Buckshot i can sweep off the shelfs...

I have 000 buck 3" magnum in the tube right now, and another 5 shells of the same kind in a shell holder.

I found some Winchester Supreme Hi-Impact 1oz slugs at Carter Country and keep the tube and Side-Saddle full of them just in case the zombies are driving a train. These things will knock it off the tracks.

Remington 1187 + 3" 000 buck X 5 = excellent home defense setup. Barking, man eating neutered blue heeler companion (he has an exceptional sense for character and time), security system with extra loud external siren. No concern with danger to neighbors because we have none close by. Easy for my wife to operate....push button, pull trigger....big boom X 5.
