Please tell us why you prefer these special methods. For example, does a handgun for deer offer a very special challenge to stalk the animal very close?
I myself prefer the NORM for methods of taking deer (where legal).
Here is my understanding of deer/big-game weapons for hunting in America as a guy age 50+.
The norm for SPORT deer hunting weapons and fodder in America:
1. CF rifle, .243 Win. or more potent
2. bottleneck cartridges w/ lead-based bullets
Special things for SPORT deer hunting, sometimes mandated by local jurisdictions and certain game seasons as follows:
1. straight-walled-cartridge CF rifles
2. shotguns
3. handguns
4. black-powder cartridge rifles
5. muzzleloaders
6. long bows
7. crossbows
8. rimfire rifles, might be unlawful to use for deer in most jurisdictions (my grandfather and father both commented that guys who shoot .22's at deer are idiots)
9. non-lead bullets where law requires
Now, in emergency wilderness situations, I can see using any available weapon to take meat for survival.
