Why replace the recoil spring in your semi auto?

Because they wear out, and weak springs beat the hell out of your gun.

Old and new spring out of my P226 after about 4,000 rounds. A full coil difference.

Sig's are hell on springs. The rental Sigs at work need new springs, I feel bad for them.
