Out of the 8 entrees Wise has in their Grab and Go buckets about 1/2 of it taste like crap. My whole family agrees and we have talked to several other people and they agree. The Chicken/Teriyaki Rice and Lasagna are especially nasty. thank goodness, we don't have a lot of it and we have switched to Mountain House and some others. We found a brand called Saratoga Farms and it seems to be good stuff also.

Wise food tastes like warmed over crap but it will keep you alive.

I've been using mountain house when I go camping and don't want to take a cooler full of food. It tastes good and has a higher calorie count than wise food.

yeah, stay away from Wise if you actually want food that taste good. Try looking up "The Ready Store" and "The Freeze Dry Guy" for good deals

Canned and dried from your supermarket will keep reasonably well, and you can keep a pretty good amount on hand if you rotate stocks.

+1 to Mountain House. Easier to cook in my experience, too. A lot of the dehydrated stuff, it seems like you have to boil it for 5-10 minutes, then let it cool and serve. Mountain House is typically, "add boiling water, stir, cool and eat". Love it when I'm camping because it means I have to hunt up less firewood for dinner.

I pressure can my own shelf stable meals. Stuff like chili and stew are easy to can. Keep in a cool, dry, dark place and it's good for at least two years. It's good longer than that, but starts to lose consistency and nutritional value. Most of my jars don't make it through a whole year however because the girlfriend and I take them to work for lunch.

I use MRE's for camping... I really dislike the dehydrated stuff.
